Suspicious emails purporting to be from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) should be reported to alert at fdic dot gov.

- Up-to-date malware (endpoint) protection software in addition to anti-virus software.
- Use a firewall when entering personal information.
- Use different passwords for each system/website accessed.
- Disabling AutoPlay to prevent the automatic launching of executable files.
- Do not open attachments unless you expect them.

- Spyware - Software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another's computer activities by transmitting data covertly from their hard drive.
- Phishing - The fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. You may receive an e-mail message designed to look like it came from a legitimate source that warns of a serious problem requiring immediate attention or redirects you to a phony website that looks like the real thing. Phishing attempts may also be sent via instant messaging. Voice phishing called "vishing" involves the use of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and can be in the form of an email appearing to be from a trusted source, or automated dialing programs showing a legitimate-looking local or toll-free phone number in caller ID.
